Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Do I need to book an appointment? 'Walk-in' appointments are sometimes available at weekends, however I recommend booking to save disappointment.

Do you work with men? Yes, I don't discriminate on gender!

Is there parking? Yes - pay and display parking is available in  the Barrow Centre car park (nearest).  Alternately you can park for free by the church at Maker & walk down through the park (be aware the paths can get muddy).

Do you take card payments? Yes - I use iZettle or PayPal to process card payments and accept all major credit and debit cards including American Express.

What happens if I can't make my appointment? Let me know...as soon as possible...so we can reschedule.  Unfortunately I have had to implement a cancellation policy where appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are liable for the full treatment fee. This may be waived in exceptional circumstances.

What if I'm running late? Again...let me know as soon as possible.  Your treatment time may need to be reduced or we may have to reschedule the appointment depending on how late you'll be.  The cancellation policy will apply.

My teenage daughter and her friend are on holiday with us...can they both have treatments? Whilst under 18s are welcome in the treatment room, to comply with legislation a person with parental responsibility must complete the consultation form for them.  Unfortunately I would not be able to provide a treatment for your daughter's friend.

I've been given a gift voucher ...can I use it for a different treatment? Of course - with gift vouchers I'm very flexible!  You can either use it for a higher priced treatment and pay the difference in value, or you can use it against more than one lower priced treatment.

Can I buy your products online? This functionality will be added to the site, but in the interim contact me so we can arrange purchase/shipping etc.

AROMATHERAPY

How do I prepare for an aromatherapy treatment?

  • Avoid alcohol for at least 12 hours before your appointment.
  • Have something light to eat as massage isn't recommended on a completely empty stomach, but avoid a large meal.
  • Ensure you leave at least 1 hour after vigorous exercise before your appointment.
  • Remember to wear loose comfortable clothing that can easily be removed and put back on after your treatment.
  • Bring a list of any medication you are currently taking.
  • If your wear contact lenses & are having a face treatment remember to bring a case and solution with you, or wear your glasses.
  • Ensure you have scheduled yourself time out to relax afterwards.

What should I do after my aromatherapy treatment?

  • Book your next appointment! When this should be will depend upon your needs and preferences.
  • Avoid sunbathing for 24 hours.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
  • Aromatherapy massage can make you feel drowsy so it is important not to drive immediately after your treatment....go for a gentle walk in the beautiful grounds of Mount Edgcumbe & only drive when you feel safe to do so.
  • Don't do any heavy lifting, gardening or vigorous exercise.
  • Avoid having a bath or shower for at least 12 hours after the treatment to enable maximum absorption of the oils.
  • You may feel a little 'tender' particularly if I have worked quite deeply in an area.  This is perfectly normal and should subside with 24 - 48 hours.

MASSAGE

How do I prepare for an Indian Head or Thai Foot appointment?

  • Have something light to eat as massage isn't recommended on a completely empty stomach, but avoid a large meal.
  • Ensure you leave at least 1 hour after vigorous exercise before your appointment.
  • Remember to wear loose comfortable clothing:
    • Indian Head - don't wear any tops with thick seams
    • Thai Foot - wear loose trousers that can be easily rolled up to provide access to your lower legs
  • Bring a list of any medication you are currently taking.
  • Ensure you have scheduled yourself time out to relax afterwards.

WAXING

How do I prepare for a waxing appointment?

  • Check your diary doesn't conflict with the aftercare advice! E.g. don't book an appointment if you're running a half marathon the next day/going to a fancy dress party as catwoman that night!
  • Ensure your hair is the right length - ideally 1cm long.  If it's too short the wax won't be able to pick it up enough to remove it, and if it's too long it prevents the wax from adhering and may cause more pain.
  • Check your skin in the area to be waxed...broken skin or inflammation needs time to heal before waxing.
  • Exfoliate really well the day before your appointment to loosen dead skin cells and lift up trapped hairs.
  • Don't moisturise the day of your appointment.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing to your appointment.

What should I do after a waxing treatment?

  • Book your next appointment! It depends on your individual rate of hair growth but a rough guide is:
    • Leg waxing every 4-6 weeks
    • Bikini and underarm waxing every 4 weeks
    • Eyebrows, lip & chin every 2-4 weeks.
  • Some slight soreness, redness and little dots/bumps are common temporary reactions and should subside over the next 24-48 hours.
  • Keep the waxed areas clean & avoid heat and friction for 24-48 hours:
    • No hot baths or showers (think cool to lukewarm)
    • No saunas, jacuzzis, hot tubs or steam rooms
    • No sunbeds or sunbathing
    • No sport/gym or other vigorous exercise including manual labour
    • No swimming
    • No touching/scratching the waxed area
    • No tight clothing
    • No products (make up/deodorant/perfume/lotions/scrubs) applied to the area except those recommended
    • Do use an antibacterial skin wash or add some dead sea salts to the bath to help prevent infection
  • Starting about 3 days after your appointment:
    • Gently exfoliate the skin up to 3 times a week to help prevent ingrowing hairs
    • Moisturise every day to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through easily
    • Leave any regrowth alone! It can take four evenly spaced treatments to get your hair on a growth cycle that gives the best results so please don't shave or tweeze any 'strays' that appear between appointments.
